OFSTED accepted Paediatric First Aid - Surrey First Aid Training

Our 12 hour Paediatric First Aid course meets OFSTED and EYFS requirements; it includes common medical conditions including anaphylaxis and asthma.

Our 12 hour face to face and blended learning Paediatric First Aid courses meet the requirements of the EYFS framework 2021 which sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. 

Surrey First Aid Training is the leading provider of Paediatric First Aid in the South East. We have delivered this course for over 23 years. In this time we have trained childcare practitioners from all over the UK and we have been the contracted provider of Paediatric First Aid for Merton, Kingston, Sutton and Richmond Borough Council and approved provider for Surrey County Council and East Sussex Early Years.

Training includes Anaphylaxis Awareness and the use of an automated external defibrillator for children.

 

What is Blended Learning and How Does it Work?

Blended learning in EYFS has been recognised by the Department of Education Framework since September 2021 as an effective way of learning First Aid.

Our unique 12-hour comprehensive Blended Paediatric Course has been specifically designed for childcare practitioners and includes over 300 online learning resources.

We hold our Blended Learning Paediatric First Aid courses in our venues in Guildford and Epsom. Our courses are delivered in small informal groups of child carers and taught by Paediatric First Aid experts such as paediatric nurses and paramedics. We will ensure the course is relevant and interesting and most importantly practical, with casualty simulation and interactive workshops.

 

We promise parking is always free and refreshments provided. 

The cost of the training in our exclusive venues is £109 inclusive per person (parking, refreshments, certificate, online resources and annual refresher training are all included).

 

Training in your setting

We can also to come to your workplace at a time to suit your childcare setting or school. This includes weekends and evenings. Choose between 12 hours training with one of our trainers or a blended learning course.

Who was this course designed for?

 

This course is designed for all those working with children, particularly those working with Early Years.

 

What is the course content?

 

The course covers the content recommended by OFSTED.

The following information is taken from the 2017 Statutory Framework for the Early Years

Foundation Stage published by the Department of Education.

Our 12 Hour Paediatric First Aid course ensures that all of the areas listed below are fully covered:

Annex A: Criteria for effective PFA training 

1. Training is designed for workers caring for young children in the absence of their parents and is appropriate to the age of the children being cared for.

2. Following training, an assessment of competence leads to the award of a certificate.

3. The certificate must be renewed every three years.

4. Adequate resuscitation and other equipment including baby and junior models must be provided so that all trainees are able to practice and demonstrate techniques.

5. The emergency PFA course should be undertaken face-to-face and last for a minimum of 6 hours (excluding breaks) and cover the following area

  • Be able to assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take
  • Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Help a baby or child who is having a seizure
  • Help a baby or child who is choking
  • Help a baby or child who is bleeding
  • Help a baby or child who is suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (hypovolaemic shock)

6. The full PFA course should last for a minimum of 12 hours (excluding breaks) and cover the areas set out in paragraph 5 as well as the following areas:

  • Help a baby or child who is suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • Help a baby or child who has had an electric shock
  • Help a baby or child who has burns or scalds
  • Help a baby or child who has a suspected fracture
  • Help a baby or child with a head, neck or back injuries
  • Help a baby or child who is suspected of being poisoned
  • Help a baby or child with a foreign body in the eyes, ears or nose
  • Help a baby or child with an eye injury
  • Help a baby or child with a bite or sting
  • Help a baby or child who is suffering from the effects of extreme heat or cold
  • Help a baby or child has: a diabetic emergency; an asthma attack; an allergic reaction; meningitis; and/or febrile convulsions
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider (including appropriate contents of a first aid box and the need for recording accidents and incidents)

 Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage Compliant First Aid

 

What is the course duration?

 

6 & 12-hour courses. This course can be delivered in two different ways:

Traditional option: 12 hours of face to face practical learning with the trainer at the venue, over 2 days or split into multiple sessions. 

Blended Learning option: One 6 hour day of face to face practical learning with the trainer at the venue and 6 hours of flexible independent self-study with a multiple choice questionnaire to be completed in your own time. (This course is accepted by OFSTED). 

Our 6 hour Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is delivered with the trainer in our venue or your workplace.

 

What is the assessment method?

 

12-hour Traditional Option: Competency-based training and continuous observation by the trainer.

6-hour Blended Learning Option: Competency-based training and continuous observation by the trainer, followed by a multiple choice questionnaire to be completed in your own time.

 

What certificate will we get?

 

Successful candidates will receive an OFSTED accepted certificate by email which is valid for three years.
