Last year a little 5 year old girl sadly choked to death on Cadbury Mini Eggs. As we approach Easter, now is a great time to revise what to do in a choking emergency and spread public awareness of these small and airway sized choke hazards.
The particular danger with all mini eggs is they fit perfectly into the airway and the hard shell makes it difficult for the bodies enzymes to dissolve.
Cadbury Mini Eggs have a warning on the back of the packet which states the chocolate should not be consumed by children under the age of four. However, sadly Sophie the little girl who died was five, so care must be taken whatever the age of the child. Additionally, not just mini eggs can present a choking hazard at Easter, small round chocolates can easily get stuck in the windpipe and therefore, should be given to children with caution.
