New Guidelines have been released for managing during a heat wave. This comes after over one hundred schools shut during the summer heatwave. In an effort to keep schools open but children safe, this guidelines covers the need to know for schools. Despite requests by local authorities to stay open, without prior planning for heat at the extreme was felt it, many schools did not have adaquate resources to stay open and most schools made their own changes, such as non uniform, shorter days and quiet lunch break.
The governement had to also update their First Aid guidance after confusing Heat Stroke with Heat Exaustion in the previous document.
Now it is clear that the risk of Heat Exaustion should be reduced by planning and implementation guidelines for extreme weather, such as July 2022 when the tempeture reached over 40c.
Heat Stroke the most servere form on heat related illness, that can lead to death, is unlikely to occur at school and includes the symptoms of dry flushed skin and fitting. Heat Stroke is normally associtated with outdoor activity in extreme weather.
